If you love custom cookies as much as we do, you will love this experience!
We’re excited to partner with Jasmine from Jasmine’s creations who will be teaching us how to create custom “pie” cookies, perfect for your Thanksgiving table.
Join us on @sofestively’s Instagram Live on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 7:30 pm for the tutorial.
What to expect
Jasmine will walk us through her cookie decorating tips, step by step.
To follow along, we’re sharing Jasmine’s cookie dough and frosting recipes.
A question we asked Jasmin: Can we just buy cookie dough from the store? Yes and no! Yes, if you don’t have time. No, because the dough will spread when it’s baked and not keep the shape of the cookie cutter. Aha!
What about frosting? Can we just buy frosting in a can? Again, yes and no! Yes, if you don’t have time. But no, because the frosting won’t dry or ‘crust’. Who knew!
We told you we’re sharing “Secrets” of custom cookie making!
Here’s what you’ll need to follow along:
- Cookie dough (see recipe below)
- Buttercream frosting (see recipe below)
- Food coloring gel
- plastic baggies for piping
- A circle and a triangle cookie cutters:
- You can buy these on Amazon:
- Or if you can find a creative way to cut the dough (tomato can, anyone?)
We can’t wait, see you online at 7:30 on Thursday 11/17!
Cookie dough recipe
- 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter (room temp)
- 1 cup of sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 1/2 cups flour
Instructions
- Cream butter and sugar until smooth.
- Add eggs and vanilla.
- Slowly add flour, baking soda and salt.
- Cover and chill for 1 hour or overnight.
- Roll out dough and cut out shapes.
- Once shapes are cut, place them on a cookie sheet and freeze for 10 mins.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 8 minutes or until golden brown.
Buttercream Frosting
- 1 stick unsalted butter (room temp)
- 1 1/2 sticks vegetable shortening
- 1 TBSP vanilla extract
- 1 bag confectioners sugar
- 1/4 cup milk
For the shortening this is the one I use which is better for measurements. Since we need 1 full stick and 1/2 of another.
Instructions
- Mix butter and shortening until combined and smooth.
- Add vanilla and mix for 1 minute.
- Slowly add powdered sugar
- Lastly add milk or water.
